Quote & Poem: Stupidty and Inattenton
It's easy to make mistakes when you are clueless and not paying attention. But I'm happy with it.
Stupidty
"To be stupid,
selfish, and have
good health are
three requirements
for happiness,
though if
stupidity is lacking,
all is lost.”
- Gustave Flaubert
Inattenton
Shirt,
trousers, shoes
in place, I resume the
rat race and summon the day.
Off to work, to lunch,
to work, to store
for assorted
foodstuffs,
to library of
snickering kids to
get new book on hold,
to Tony’s for an IPA or two,
watch the game unfold,
and finally home to
dinner and a
little TV
where
I flop in a
stuffed chair,
feet begging for air,
only to hear the doorbell
ring; it’s Cliff our neighbor who
asks if I can take them to the airport
Tuesday; I say okay, can do, and he
looks down with a bit of a frown
and asks if I can feed the
fish, too. We agree
on a plan and
he leaves
and I
sit down,
bone weary,
and bend over
to untie my shoes
and am shocked and
chagrined to note my
footwear don’t match,
two not of a kind,
one a darker hue
of brown than
the other.
I think back
on where I’ve been
since rising bleary out
of bed and then oh
brother does my
face ever
turn
red.
